Can we live a more meaningful life?

We are living in a polarised world of far left and far right populism ignited and fuelled by geopolitical wars, mass immigration, European economic stagnation, cost of living crises and a small percentage of global elites whose wealth grows exponentially on a daily basis. Overarching all of this is an unaddressed climate crisis with existential threats. Apparently, the fix will be found in a new form of clean energy which will increase economic productivity and global prosperity. Mixed into all of this is the dramatic threat that artificial intelligence (AI) will take our jobs and make the wrong decisions for humanity, though it will of course all be of our own making.

Whatever your take on it, it is anxiety producing. The reality is that none of us, let alone any one political leader, can resolve or even impact all of this.

What I am starting to hear more and more in the media is a spiritual dimension starting to emerge. How can we live a more meaningful life despite all of this?

I have a wealth of experience as a Chartered Accountant in Senior Leadership in both public and private sectors supporting the challenges of whole system change. As well as intellectual knowing and a strong analytical mind, as a Psychosynthesis Coach and Embodied Supervisor I have been on and continue an ongoing journey at depth with my body through yoga. This has resulted in an integration of mind and body, bringing a felt sense of being, integrating psycho-spiritual depth with somatic awareness. This has not only occurred at a body level, it has also shifted me from concrete mind dominance to more mind balance through integration of the abstract, creative mind. The combination of receiving as well as giving Coaching, Supervision & Yoga has not only created an integration of body & mind, but it has also supported my progress through difficult personal and professional change. Emerging from this I am able to hold a psychospiritual context, working with the transpersonal, rather than just behavioural, surface level. My experience is that big shifts happen when we are able to synthesise polarity through grounding into our authority. It requires depth in navigating inner and outer, individual and collective, and personal and transpersonal dilemmas.

Holding space is a vital part of the emergent. It requires sensitivity and presence through grounding into and holding authority. Without this, spaciousness can lead to nothingness, or worse fixer subpersonalities can emerge and take the space. My professional corporate and life experiences have helped me to bring an authentic justice to my work. Where I hold power and authority consciously and ethically.

In our professional and personal lives, we can become stuck in deeply ingrained unhelpful patterns that we cannot see. My experience of working at depth with subpersonalities, valencies, and actively using my will to disidentify in action has resulted in successful processing of intergenerational trauma, limiting beliefs and feelings, allowing me to see my authentic self more clearly and ground more effectively into my authority. I bring all of this together with a dedication to ongoing personal development, mirroring the self realisation/actualisation journey to my various leadership roles in my personal and professional life.

This is how I have learned to live a more meaningful life. It is the polarities that support a step into the spiritual dimension. The outer as a mirror to the inner world. The only dimension that we can change. But as it changes, the dynamics of our outer world change too as we learn to stand in our sovereignty, navigate uncertainty, make the right decisions for ourselves, and own the things we thought we needed to hide.

Taking this into personal and professional relationships creates the possibility for exciting conversations and co-creating new ideas, projects and plans with a life force of their own. There are no off the shelf fixes. No one person is going to turn this mess around. We create and co-create the solutions as we navigate our way through our own experiences of these difficult times.

This meaningful approach to life requires us to take responsibility for our own relationship patterns and wounding as it arises day to day. A constant reflective process of honouring ourselves and addressing the wounds as they start to become visible. It is the inner wounding patterns that create the possibility for outer change. Yes, it is vulnerable to be working through our feelings, understanding where our unhelpful patterns of behaviour come from and working out where our real values, passion and skills lie. It requires bravery and strength, but it brings compassion, joy, a new zest for life and creates good in the world for us and for future generations.
